During the meeting, the artists will talk about the beginnings of the collective, their joint creative practice, explorations, remote networking and explain the meaning of GRAPHIC SKIN
The meeting will be led by the co-curator of the exhibition and president of the International Print Triennial Society in Krakow – Marta Anna Raczek-Karcz.
Due to the international character of the Magenta Research Collective and due to limited time, the meeting will be held in English.
Magenta Research Collective, is a group of female printmakers first brought together as a panel discussion in the “magenta room” at the IMPACT12 – Multidisciplinary Printmaking Conference at the Centre for Fine Print Research, University of the West of England in Bristol, UK in September 2022. This meeting inspired the artists to form a collective to develop their common research interests through a series of exhibitions and publications.
The exhibition – GRAPHIC SKIN – which is present in the International Center of Graphic Art in Krakow, refers to the common threads that permeate the artists’ individual works: body, touch, materiality, sensibility and affectual trace. Skin is the layer between the inner and the outer worlds, the physical border of one’s self-identity. It is also the ‘substrate’ that can be touched, wounded or decorated, one that narrates subjectivities.
This graphic intent is investigated by each artist through the lens of feminism, social practices and power, and subjective narratives and herstories.
