About the Exhibition:

Krakow’s Graphic Arts

The current exhibition of Krakow artists at the Municipal Gallery in Olomouc is the result of cooperation between the Association of Polish Artists and Designers, Krakow Branch with The Olomouc Union of Fine Artists in the Czech Republic. The choice of graphics as the field of art that we present is not accidental, because of two important circumstances – this year’s 110th anniversary of the existence of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers, and the 11th International Print Triennial 2021 which takes place in Krakow. The celebration of the 110th anniversary of ZPAP is an excellent opportunity to familiarize our Czech colleagues and residents of Olomouc with the history of our association, and with the output of fourteen artists who represent Krakow’s graphic environment. In this way, a fraction of the history of the organization which has associated Polish professional artists of fine arts for over a century is promoted outside Poland, and contemporary Krakow’s creativity is being actively popularized. The Krakow School of Graphics is recognized and respected worldwide. Its tradition dates back to the 1950s and is closely related to the Krakow Branch of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers, where, thanks to the activity of artists from the trade union Graphics Section, this particular field of creativity was widely promoted by organizing the „1st Polish Biennale of Graphics” in 1960. The success of the exhibition and the need for further promotion of graphic arts by the Association of Polish Artists and Designers, the Krakow Branch, led to the continuation of this initiative for the following years, until the independent association of the International Print Triennial was established in 1992, organizing further events in the triennial system to this day. We would like to thank Czech artists for the invitation to organize the exhibition in their beautiful town, and for the opportunity to present some of our achievements in the field of printmaking and digital graphics. The exchange of experiences in the field of art is always extremely valuable, and the artistic dialogue stimulates a productive transfer of thoughts and creative reflection…
